Pengaruh Luas Hutan Dalam Daerah Aliran Sungai Terhadap Hasil Sedimen Dan Limpasan: Studi Kasus Pada Hutan Mahoni (Swietenia Macrophylla) di KPH Gundih

The condition of forest area within a watershed is mostly less then 30 % right now (according to Indonesian Act number 41 year of 1999 article # 18: the forest area should be more than 30 % over the watershed area). As a result, the forest function for environmental sustainability become less optimal, and than have an impact on flood, erosion and sedimentation. To identify the relationship between forest cover area within a watershed and the its impact on runoff and erosion-sedimentation, a study using watershed approach was conducted at plantation forest area of Swietenia macrophylla (mahagony) in Gundih forest district unit (KHP), during 2000-2001. The treatments were: 1) TRT#1 = mini catchment with combination area of mahagony of 1 year age (56 % ) as crops area and mahagony of 10 year age (44 %), and 2) TRT#2 = mini catchment with mahagony of 8 year age (100 % of the watershed area). To measure onsite soil erosion, it was installed a plot runoff-soil loss standard (4 m x 22.1 m) completed with drum collector; whereas for mini catchment, measurement was used V-notch weir. The results indicate that: 1) the sediment delivery ratio (SDR) of TRT#2 < TRT#1 respectively 0.24 and 0.72 as a result of mulch biomass of the litter at fully forested area; 2) the runoff delivery ratio between TRT#1 and TRT#2 were not fairly different, respectively 0.36 and 0.37; 3) the more area covered by mahagony stand, the better the area on controlling soil erosion-sedimentation and runoff; and 4) runoff coefficient (C) of both treatments were categorized as good condition (<0,50), respectively for plot and watershed scales at TRT#1= 0,25 and 0,09 and at TRT#2= 0,09 and 0,03.
