The Influence of Teak Forest on Ground Water Fluctuation at Cepu, Central Java

Abstrak (Indonesia):
Abstract (English) :
The problem on water availability often occur in teak forest, where land suitable for teak plantation is calcareous soils and climatologically dry. This research aims to identify groundwater fluctuation under teak forest. Groundwater level was measured on a monthly basis during dry season to the begining of the rainy season in 2009. There are 79 wells in Ngroto Sub watershed, Blora District, Central Java. The distance between each well and the forest area varies from 100 m to 2000 m. The area of the sub watershed is 6980 hectares. The results show that the groundwater fluctuations were strongly influenced by season and the distance from the forest. The highest fluctuation occurred on the changes period from dry season to wet season. On the nearest distance of the 100m from the forest area, the groundwater fluctuation is the lowest. However, the results show that the highest ground water fluctuation occured on the well which has 1000m distance from the teak forest. The relationship between the distance of the teak forest and the groundwater fluctuation has correlation coefficient (R2= 0.74) indicating that there are other factors influencing groundwater fluctuation such as parent material and tributary of river. Research on groundwater under forest should be developed to other forest types, parent material, and types of aquifer.
