Effect of Climate Change on water Yield in Central Java, East Java and east Bali

Climate change likely affects the environmental condition. Parameters which control climate properties such as rainfall and air temperature may alter water yield. The aim of the research is to find the relationship between climate change and water yield. A watershed was used as a unit analysis. The research were located in Dumpul sub-watershed, Karanganyar District, Central Java Province; Bajulmati watershed at Banyuwangi District, East Java Province, and Peneban sub-watershed in Karangasem District, Bali Province. The data of rainfall, air temperature, and water yield were available for 16 to 30 years. Trend analysis was used to describe rainfall, air temperature, and water yield. In order to know an obvious change, the daily or montly air temperature was divided by maximum or minimum air temperature. The results show that the annual rainfall decreases by 16 %, 6 %, and 14 % for Dumpul, Bajulmati, and Peneban sub-watershed, respectively. The minimum air temperature increases between 0.5 to 1 "C, whereas the maximum air temperature increases by O.4┬ĚC only in Peneban sub-watershed, and decreases by 0.2 and 0.5"C in Dumpul and Bajulmati watershed, respectively. The annual water yield decreases by 25 %, 37.5 %, and 15 % in Dumpul, Bajulmati, and Peneban sub-watershed, respectively. There is a relationship between decreasing water yield and rainfall since the water yield as an output and rainfall as an input of the watershed. In addition, the air temperature is part of processes in the watershed especially in determining the magnitude of evapo-transpiration. Although the duration of the recorded data are only 16 to 30 years, there is a trend on the decrease in rainfall and water yield. This condition should be considered to anticipate cropping pattern and domestic water use efficiency.
