The Effect Of Teak Forest Watershed On Water Quality: A Case Study In Blora, Central Java, Indonesia

Abstract (English) :
Water quality is an important indicator for filtering function of watershed forested area. Teak plantation forest is one of the major watershed forest in Central Java. This paper studies the effect of teak forest into water quality in a watersheds Central Java. Teak forests watershed were observed based on the percentages of forested area of 10 to 70 years old teak plantation. Water quality tested includes total dissolved solid (TDS), turbidity, Fluorine, Sulphat, Chlorine, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD). It was concluded that teak forests were able to filter water for better quality. The result shows that the higher percentage forest area in a watershed, the lower the parameters except for BOD and COD. When the forested area reached 60 % of the watershed, the parameters of water quality such as Sulphat, Chlorinee, TDS, and turbidity become almost constant. For Nitrite and Nitrate will decrease when the forested area reached 40 %. In addition, the quality of water is suitable for drinking water when the forested area reached 90 % of the watershed area.
